Enter the arena of Toro Toro...

Withstand until the end. Who will be the last Toro standing?

How to Play?

Dodge the incoming Toros that can knock you out in one hit! Collect items thrown by audience members to strengthen your resolve. Items have different abilities, but you can only use the ability of the last item you've collected. Endure the fight for long enough and you'll be the one knocking the Toros out of the ring!

Controls:

WASD or arrow keys to move around.

Item Guide:

  • Key: Allows you to pass through arena gates onto the other side.
  • Bowl: Reflect a charging Toro to run in the opposite direction.
  • Candy: Creates a clone.
  • Bow: Invincible for one hit. Scatters new items upon opening.
  • Ticket Stub: Lets in another audience member. They may have something for you...

Tips:

  • Check the status bar under the bulls to see if you can take them on. If the bar is filled completely, you'll be able to knock them out.
  • Collect as many items as you can but try to use their abilities to their maximum potential before you lose access to their power!
  • The bowl ability only works on charging bulls...

Background

This game is our submission to the LAGS Game Jam 2026!

Cultural Inspiration

The game reflects Latin American culture by drawing directly from the traditions of a pueblo originating in Michoacán, Mexico, specifically the jaripeo. The jaripeo consists of many festivites including a bull riding event, fireworks, and a parade. In these celebrations, community members throw gifts, often household objects as part of a communal celebration. These elements inspired the gameplay, visual design, and environment of Toro Toro including audience members throwing seemingly random items in the ring, an arena with deadly Toros, and our playable character - the mysterious jinete, a bull rider.

This is a big event for our family and community so bringing it to life and showcasing a cultural tradition to those that may not be familiar even within Mexico is really exciting. :)

Theme

We incorporated the theme of "jack of all trades, master of none" directly into the core gameplay by designing the player character around constant adaptability rather than specialization. The player must continuously pick up and use different items, each offering a unique utility, effectively shifting between “trades” in real time. The player gets to experience different capabilities, but none can be upgraded, saved, or built upon, preventing mastery of any single ability. The player can’t pick favorites or get attached to any as player strength goes up from collecting all items.

Instead of encouraging players to form attachments or optimize a specific build, progression is tied to collecting and using a variety of items. Success depends on versatility, no single item is sufficient to defeat enemies or complete the game. This design pushes players to respond to changing situations and environments, reinforcing a playstyle rooted in flexibility, improvisation, and balance rather than expertise in one skill.
